Shaunak Parikh emerged victorious in the ninth (Bhubaneswar) leg of 16th MercedesTrophy Golf Tournament, held at the Bhubaneswar Golf Club here today. With this win, he qualified for the National Finals, scheduled to be held at Oxford Golf and Country Club, Pune in March 31 to April 1.
It was a one-day affair that juxtaposed sporting extravaganza with a grandiloquent customer experience that was offered by Mercedes Benz. More than 100 people attended the event and got an opportunity to enjoy the game and an array of products. The whole milieu was a visual treat for the friends and families of the customers and the golfing aficionados. In order to introduce beginners to the game, Mercedes-Benz also hosted a golf clinic at the Bhubaneswar Golf Club.
The previous eight legs were held in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Jaipur. India will witness 25 days of competitive amateur golfing action in 12 cities engaging more than 2500 golfers, making it larger than ever before. With the culmination of the three stops of the MercedesTrophy at Jaipur, Bhubaneswar and Chandigarh in February, 25 out of the 40 spots for the National Final will be booked.
Three winners from the National Finals will further progress to the MercedesTrophy World Finals, which would take place at Stuttgart, Germany in September 2016 to compete against winners from all over the world.
One winner will travel to the British Open Championship and get a chance to play the Royal Troon Championship course the day following the tournament. Hari Narayan of Mumbai has qualified for the Abu Dhabi Golf Skills challenge and will be joined by three other golfers to be selected from each zone.
