Odisha women bagged four gold medals in the 34th Senior National Rowing Championships, which conclueded at Hussain Sagar Lake, Hyderabad today. All the medallists belonged to SAI Watersports Centre, Jagatpur, Cuttack.
Sanjukta Dung Dung and Manjula Xess won the gold medal in women’s 2,000m pair event, clocking 7:53.35 seconds. They repeated the success in 500m pair event with a time of 1:48.33s.
Kamla Lakra, Pracila Baxla, Sanjukta Dung Dung and Manjula Xess won gold medal in women’s 2,000m coxless four event, clocking 7:25.92 seconds. The fourth gold medal for Odisha was secured in women 500m coxless four event by Pramila Prava Minz, Pratima Puhana, Sanjukta Dung Dung and Manjula Xess (1:45.72s). Odisha rowers were accompanied by their coach and Dronacharya Awardee Jose Jacob.
Two more Odisha rowers, representing Chandigarh, secured silver medal in women’s pair event with a time of 8:05.12. They were Monalisa Mohanty and Mamta Jena. The duo repeated the feat in women 500m pair event.
Monalisa, Mamta and their Odia-mate Priyadarshini Rout bagged another silver medal for Chandigarh, finishing second in women 500m coxless four event.
