Odisha achieved notable success in the 8th Wheelchair National Fenching Championship, bagging seven medals, including five gold at Kurnool in Haryana. According media reports, Odisha team, comprising V Ramesh Rao, Rakhal Kumar Sethi, Pravakar Behera and Akshay Kumar Sahoo captured gold medals in both men`s epee and foil events.
V Ramesh Rao pocketed another two gold medals in individual epee and foil events. The fifth gold medal for Odisha was captured by Malati Singh in women’s individual foil event. Rakhal Sethi claimed one silver and bronze each in individual foil and epee events respectively
Odisha Wheelchair Fencing Association secretary Bishnu Charan Sahoo described the achievements as the result of a coaching camp, held last month at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. According to Sahoo, outstanding performers of the ongoing national championship will get the chance to represent India in the Asian Wheelchair Fenching Championship.
