Seema among women and Deepak among men emerged winners in the Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half-Marathon, held here today. The winners received cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each. Around 3,000 runners participated in the 21.1 km-long main event, which stared from Kalinga Stadium and proceded towards Chandrasekharpur, from where took a U-turn before ending at Kalinga Stadium.
Apart from the half-marathon, 10km run for institutions, colleges and corporate houses and 5km run for school students (upto 12th standard) was conducted simultaneously. Rakesh Kumar and Monika Choudhury won 10km event in men and women categories respectively. The top honours in 5km boys and girls events were secured by Anil Ekka and Asmita Sethy respectively. The winners in 10km event received Rs 51,000 each and that of 5kg event Rs 11,000 each.
The entire event carried a total prize fund of Rs 9.14 lakh, which was distributed among top five finishers in six categories. According to an MOU, signed earlier for three years, State Sports and Youth Services Department contributed the total prize money of Rs 9, 14,000.
Odisha Governor Dr SC Jamir flagged off the event, while Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi handed over the prizes. Sports Minister Sudam Marndi, Berahampur MP Sidhant Mohapatra, Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patsani, MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Tata Steel MD T V Narendran, vice-president Sunil Bhaskaran, Corporate Services Arun Misra, Vice President, Project Gopalpur, MD Tata Steel SEZ, and Chanakya Chaudhary were present on the occasion.
This is the second time that Tata Steel organised mass run in the capital city. The corporate major earlier staged a 10km-long category of the run-a-thon on February 15, 2015. The winners in the first event had received cash prizes of Rs 51,000 each.

10km run: Women: 1. Monika Choudhury, 2. Bijaymala Patil, 3. Sipra Sarkar, 4. Phulan Khatun, 5. MS Patil. Men. 1. Rakesh Kumar, 2. Durga Bahadur Budha, 3. Subhankar Ghosh, 4. Sachin Kumar, 5. Arjun Tudu.
5km run: Girls: 1. Asmita Sethy, 2. Mili Majhi, 3. Ambika Dila, 4. Salmara Begum, 5. Rashmita Mohanty. Boys: 1. Anil Ekka, 2. Bhimsen Janika, 3. Sunil Suru Murmu, 4. Khel Soren, 5. Bablu Tudu.

Half marathon: 1. Rs 1 lakh, 2. Rs 75,000, 3. Rs 51,000, 4. Rs 31,000, 5. Rs 11,000 (Total Rs 2.68 lakh).
10km run: 1. Rs 51,000, 2. Rs 31,000, 3. Rs 21,000, 4. Rs 15,000, 5. Rs 11,000 (Total Rs 1.29 lakh).
5km run: 1. Rs 11,000, 2. Rs 8,000, 3. Rs 7,000, 4. Rs 5,000, 5. Rs 4,000 (Total Rs 35,000).
