Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar emerged champions in the 6th Rajat Memorial Inter-School Hockey Tournament, edging out Giridharijew Vidyapitha, Holipur by 4-3 goals in the final at Police High School Ground here today. Binay Bilasan Ekka scored three goals for KISS, while his teammate Sadhu Kirsani chipped in with one. For Giridharijew Vidyapitha, Sagar Nayak scored a brace, while Sashikanta Moahnty contributed one.
Rajesh Bhoi of Giridharijew Vidyapitha was awarded the trophy as the best layer of the tournament whereas Binay Bilsan Ekka of KISS was given the prize as the best scorer. Odisha Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board chairman Subhas Singh handed over the trophy in the closing function.
KISS and Giridharijew Vidyapitha reached the final by winning three matches each in respective groups. In Group A, Giridharijew Vidyapitha defeated Bidanasi High School (Cuttack) 7-0, DAV School Chandrasekharpur-I (Bhubaneswar) 4-0 and Odisha Police High School 5-0; while KISS beat Dhenkanal High School 7-1, Garasuni School (Odapada) 5-4 and DAV School Chandrasekharpur-II 4-0 in Group B.
Altogether eight teams joined the six-a-side tournament, which was organised by Poonam Youth Welfare Organisation. The two-day tournament was inaugurated by Hockey Odisha secretary Pratap Satapathy in the presence of Police High School Janaki Sahoo headmistress and tournament head Gyanesh Kanungo.
