As many as 16 sportsperson having the distinction of winning laurels for the state are set to be employed by the State Police as constables. The list of sportspersons to be recruited was finalized in the selection meeting held here at state police headquarter earlier on December 29.
These sportspersons, who include woman rower Manjula Xess, weightlifter Swarupa Purty and cricketer Sujata Mallik, will be engaged on contract basis initially and permanently later. According to media report, the recruitment process will be completed after verification of certificates related to age, academic qualification and sports achievements.
SPORTSPERSONS TO BE RECRUITED: Manjula Xess (rowing); Ahalya Munda, Thunki Munda, Shanti Xalxo (all football); Priyadarshini Bisoi (powerlifting); Sarojini Toppo (canoeing-kayaking); Sujata Mallik, Pragyan Paramita Mohanty (both cricket); Balal Khan (bodybuilding); Swarupa Purty (weightlifting); Ananda Chandra Bihari (karate); Amrita Xaxa, Leena Tirkey (bot hockey); Umakanta Ojha, Sitakanta Ojha, Javed Akhtar (all gymnastic).
