Balasore bagged a double by winning both boys and girls kho-kho titles in the State Level Rural Sports Meet, which is being held under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA) Scheme here at Kalinga Stadium and Unit-1 High School Ground from Dec 29. Nayagarh boys emerged champions in football, defeating Sundargarh by 4-2 goals in the final via penalty shoot out.
Over 2500 players and 217 officials have joined the five-day meet, which features competition in six disciplines (athletics, football, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball and weightlifting). Winners will get trophies along with cash awards in both individual and team events. The gold, silver and bronze medallist will be give Rs 500, Rs 300 and Rs 200 respectively.
RESULTS:
Kho-kho (Girls): Semifinals: Balasore beat Bolangir 7-6; Jagatsinghpur beat Khurda 5-3. Final: Balasore beat Jagatsinghpur 7-6. Third place: Bolangir beat Khurda 3-0.
Kho-kho (Boys): Final: Balasore beat Jagatsinghpur by 3 points. Third place: Dhenkanal beat Angul by 3 points.
Football (Boys): Semifinals: Sundargarh beat Sambalpur 3-0; Nayagarh beat Dhenkanal 5-0. Final: Nayagarh beat Sundargarh 4-2 in tie-breaker. Third place: Sambalpur beat Dhenkanal 6-5 in tie-breaker.
