State senior double crown for cueist Ashutosh Padhy

Junior international Ashutosh Padhy bagged double by winning both the titles in the 22nd Odisha State Senior Billards & Snooker Championship, which concluded at Vintage Club here today. He beat Nishant Biswal in the senior snooker final by 6-2 frames.

Earlier on November 30, Ashutosh regained the senior billiards crown after a gap of one year, outplaying defending champion and his coach Subrat Das in the final by 3-0 frames. In fact, Bhubaneswar youngster Ashutosh achieved a glorious quadruple in the 22nd edition of the state championship, adding the senior double to the other double he had pocketed in junior billiards and snooker categories earlier in August. In the 2013 State championship, Ashutosh had won an unprecedented five titles, emerging champion in sub-junior, junior, senior billiards and sub-junior, junior snooker categories.

A total of nine cueists in billiards and 38 in snooker participated in recent the senior state championship, Champion and runner-up in each category will be eligible to represent Odisha in the Senior National Championship, scheduled to be held early next year at Indore.
