Sunrise Club retained the title in the FAO First Division Football League, beating will Rising Students Club by a solitary goal in the final at Barabati Stadium here today. Earlier in the semifinal, Rising Students defeated Radha Raman Club 1-0, while Sunrise beat Rising Star Club 3-1.
Odisha Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera handed over the trophy in the presence of FAO president Debashish Samantray, Cuttack District Athletic Association working president Pankaj Lochan Mohanty and other office-bearers of FAO. The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
FAO felicitated 14 veteran footballers on the occasion. They were Subash Bose, Jaydeep Bose, Sk Sakil, Santosh Prusty, Pradeep Ranjan Prusty, Pradeep Sahoo, Manas Samal, Kameswar Rao, Gopabandhu Sahoo, Basil Tirkey, T Nilamani Rao, Nirod Kumar Parija and Sk Yunus.
Semifinalists were identified after completion of 30 super league matches. The First Division League, involving 20 clubs and institutions, is being conducted by Football Association of Odisha (FAO) from November 9. After completion of 40 preliminary league matches, 12 teams qualified for the Super League.
