Asif Haque and Samartha Prusty regained the men and women singles titles respectively in the KDTTA All-Odisha Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, the 10th edition of which concluded here at Saheed Nagar Indoor Hall today. Local favourite Samartha toppled top seed Ananya Basak (Khurda) in the women final comfortably.
After losing four state-level finals in a row to Ananya, Samartha won their latest duel by 4-1 games. It was double delight for Prusty family as Samartha`s younger brother Krishan claimed the sub-junior crown, defeating Sahil Suman Bhuyan (Cuttack) 4-0.
Daughter former National champions Arup and Kanchan Basak, Ananya, however, found some consolation by pocketing title in junior girls’ category. Asif Haque of Reserve Bank of India lived up to his reputation as the numero uno in men`s category, pocketing the singles title with 4-0 win over his elder brother and East Coast Railway opponent Tousif Haque.
Other five singles titles of the three-day tournament were secured by Sushree Patnaik, Sahil Suman Bhuyan, Payal Pani, Janmejaya Moharana and Bikash Singh. SNM Group chairman Pradipta Mohanty handed over the prizes in the presence of host Khurda District Table Association secretary Smruti Ranjan Das and organising secretary Bijan Das Mohapatra.
RESULTS (All finals): Cadet girls: Sushree Patnaik (Khurda) beat Swetapadma Dalei (BBS) 3-2 (11-3, 12-14, 11-13, 11-4, 11-10). Cadet boys: Sahil Suman Bhuyan (CTC) beat Asim Amlan Mishra (Khurda) 3-0 (11-9, 11-4, 12-10). Sub-junior girls: Payal Pani (Khurda) beat Gayatri Mitra (BBS) 4-2 (9-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-4, 12-10,11-7). Sub-junior boys: Kishan Prusty (BBS) beat Sahil Suman Bhuyan 4-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-6, 16-14). Junior girls: Ananya Basak (Khurda) beat Ankita Senapati (BBS) 4-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-7, 11-8). Junior boys: Janmejaya Moharana (RSP) beat M Eswar Rao (CTC) 4-1 (11-6, 15-13, 11-7, 3-11, 11-6). Youth boys: Bikash Singh (RSP) beat M Eswar Rao 4-1 (6-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5). Women: Samartha Prusty (BBS) beat Ananya Basak 4-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9). Men: Asif Haque (RBI) beat Tousif Haque (ECoR) 4-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-6, 11-6). Veteran doubles: Sasanka Mohapatra-PK Samantray (Khurda) beat KVP Ramarao-AK Sinha (Khurda) 3-2.
