The combined efforts of women duo Pramila Kirsani and Minati Sethi fetched Odisha a total of three medals in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, which was held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium in Pune from October 11 to 16. The medals included one gold, one silver and one bronze.
Pramila captured both the gold and silver medals to be adjudged the best woman lifter. She won the gold in junior women 53kg weight class with a total lift of 189kg, which included 80kg in snatch and 109kg in clean and jerk. These efforts also fetched her the silver in senior women category, where fellow Indian Matsa Santoshi bagged the gold with total lift of 190 kg (82+108).
Minati claimed the bronze in senior women 58kg class with a total lift of 194kg, which included 84kg in snatch and 110kg in clean and jerk. While the gold medallist in the category lifted a total of 195kg, Minati and another lifter tied for the second spot with efforts of 194kg. However, Minati had to settle with bronze as her body weight was higher than her nearest opponent.
