Odisha girls Saranya Ray and Swagatika Sahoo won one bronze medal each in the Sub-junior National Karate Championship at Talkatora Indoor Stadium in Delhi today. While competing in girls 12 to 13 years age group, Saranya and Swagatika finished third in kata and fight categories respectively.
Both the medallists qualified to represent the country in the Commonwealth Karate Championship, starting at the same venue on Friday. Besides the duo, six more karatekas from Odisha will be taking part in the Commonwealth meet directly.
They are: Valena Valentina, Anupama Swain, Payal Baral, Nihar Ranjan Swain, Avishek Patnaik and Udit Udam.
