East Cost Railway (Sambalpur) won the 8th Goutam Memorial Knock-out Foot ball Tournament, outplaying Eleven Star (Bolangir) in the final by 3-1 goals here at Manmohan School ground in Jharsuguda today. Altogether eight teams participated in the tournament, which was organized by Utkal Athletic Club.
The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 51,000, while the losing finalists were given Rs 31,000. Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das and former Nigeria football star Chima Okorie handed over the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function. Athletes Anshi Kishan, Ambika Naidu, Sunidha Murmu, Raj Kishan Patel, Ankit Yadav and Sania Pradhan were felicitated on the occasion.
RESULTS:
February 1 (1st QF): East Cost Railway, Sambalpur (Gokul Oram 35th, Suresh Kujur 57th, Sanjit Panna 70th, Kishore Khadia 82nd, 85th) beat Garulia Athletic Club, West Bengal 5-0.
February 2 (2nd QF): Jharsuguda beat Angul Patka Club by 2-1.
February 3 (1st Semifinal): East Coast Railway, Sambalpur (Md Rameez 54th) beat Jharsuguda (Bijay Tirkey 48th) 4-2 in tie-breaker.
February 4 (3rd QF): Eleven Star, Bolangir (Akhelesh Toppo 57th, 72nd, 87th; Anil Deep 77th) beat Chakradharpur (Rajiv Tanti 43rd) 4-1.
February 5 (4th QF): Unit-VI Athletic Association, Bhubaneswar (Rajat Nag 36th, 85th, Jairam Munda 58th) beat SLR Club, West Bengal (Samar Singh 43rd, Laxman Murmu 45th) 3-2.
February 6 (2nd Semifinal): Eleven Star Club (Francis Lakra 64th, Ajay Oram 77th) beat Unit-VI Athletic Association 2-0.
February 8 (Final): East Cost Railway (Sanatan Luhar 17th, 25th; Sanjit Panna 85th) beat Eleven Star (Akhilesh Toppo 70th) 3-1.
