A half-century each by Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur powered Railways to a 47-run win over Odisha in their Senior Women’s T-20 Group-A League match at PYC Gymkhana ground in Pune today. This was the first defeat in two matches for Odisha, who beat Maharashtra by 11 runs yesterday.
Electing to bat, star-studded Railways were in trouble, losing three wickets for 34 runs. Odisha new-ball bowler Sujata Mallik rocked the opposition top order, bagging all the three wickets in her opening spell.
But Railway captain Mithali and Harmanpreet put on 92 runs for the fourth wicket to help their side make healthy total of 143 for four. The former remained unbeaten on 53 of 43 balls, while the latter got out after hitting a 44-ball 59 (5x4, 3x6).
In reply, Odisha were restricted to 96 for eight. Among the Odisha batsmen, Swagatika Rath, Kadambini Mohakud and Sushree Dibyadarshini Pradhan made decent contributions. Shubh Lakshmi was the most successful Railway bowler, taking three wickets for 13 runs.
