Rakesh wins MIET Open snooker crown

Rakesh Roshan Pradhan ended the year on glorious note by winning the title in the 5th MIET All-Odisha Open Snooker Tournament here at Vintage Club today. In the all-Bhubaneswar thrilling final, Rakesh rallied brilliantly from 0-4 down to beat junior national champion Ashutosh Padhy 6-4.

Rakesh received the winner`s trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while Ashutosh settled with Rs 10,000. Losing semifinalists Nishant Biswal and Jeet Kishore Das pocketed Rs 5000 each, the four losing quarterfinalists took home Rs 2,500 each.

The six-day tournament witnessed a number of upsets, caused by newcomer Rakesh Barik, former state sub-junior champion Chirag Arora and Nishant Biswal. Around 50 cueists have joined the six-day tournament, which carries a total prize fund of Rs 60,000, including Rs 20,000 for the champion.
