Odisha under-19 boys ended their Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Group-C league campaign on a disappointing note as they suffered a 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Tamil Nadu on the last day of the four-day match at Guru Nanak College ground in Chennai today.
This was the second defeat in six matches for Odisha, who earlier lost to Punjab by an innings and 396 runs. Odisha drew their first match against Maharashtra, beat Railways by 130 runs in the second, lost to Punjab by an innings and 396 runs in the third, drew the fourth with Gujarat and thrashed Jammu & Kashmir in the fifth by an innings and 70 runs to finish their league engagements with a total of 15 points.
After conceding a lead of 115 runs against Gujarat in the first innings, Odisha batted slightly better in the second innings before folding up for 190. Chasing 76 runs for victory, Tamil Nadu romped home without losing any wicket.
Washington Sundar and N Jagadeesan played instrumental roles in the Tamil Nadu win. Sundar bagged five wickets in each innings, while Jagadeesan scored a century in the first innings and an unbeaten 46 in the second essay.
For Odisha, Rajesh Dhuper, Devendra Kunwar and Satyajit Sabat shone with the bat, hitting a half-century each. The emphatic win fetched Tamil Nadu seven points, while Odisha drew blank.
