Sima Surakshya Bal, Darjeeling (WB) won the 21st All-India Aeronautics Open Football Tournament, beating Rabbani Club, Kamptee (Maharastra) 1-0 in the final at Sunabeda in Koraput on Sunday last. S Govinda Rao scored the all-important goal to be adjudged the best player of the tournament. The champion side received Rs 50,000 while the runners-up took home Rs 40,000.
HAL Executive Director Devaki Nanda gave away the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function. Orissa Police (Cuttack) won the award as the best disciplined team. Thirteen former Santosh Trophy players from Koraput district were felicitated on the occasion. Altogether eight teams from across the country participated in the tournament, which was first started in the year 1975 by Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club.
