Maharashtra IM Swapnil S Dhopade, Odisha IM Swayams Mishra and West Bengal`s Ritabroto Ganguly won the rapid, blitz and below-2000 titles respectively in the 7th KIIT All-India Open Chess Tournament, which concluded here at KIIT University campus today.
In the nine-round rapid tournament, which involved 35 players, including three GMs, nine IMs and one WGM, Swapnil won the top prize of Rs 75,000, scoring eight points, while Swayams settled with the runner-up prize of Rs 40,000.
But in the 10-round blitz event, featuring 84 competitors, local favourite Swayams grabbed the title and a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while Swapnil claimed the second prize of Rs 12,000.
Ritabroto became richer by Rs 75,000, winning the title in the below-2000 category with eight points out of a possible nine. Altogether 108 players took part in this category.
The four-day tournament, which carried a total prize fund of Rs 7 lakh, was organised by Ganjam District Chess Association (GDCA), under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA). KIIT registrar Sasmita Samant handed over the prizes in the presence of AOCA president Sekhar Chandra Sahoo, secretary VivekTibarewal and DGCA secretary KK Sarma.
