All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA) felicitated five national and international medal-winning players with cash incentives in its 6th annual function here at a city hotel earlier on March 16. Debasish Das, the state`s first Grandmaster, was the highest beneficiary, receiving Rs 50,000.
Women Candidate Master Saina Salonika was given Rs 30,000, Aparajita Gochhikar pocketed Rs 15,000, while Woman FIDE Master Rutumbara Bidhar and Anwesha Mishra took home Re 10,000 each.
As many as 14 district chess associations, academies and institutions were also felicitated on the occasion. These included Balasore District Chess Association, Bhadrak District Chess Association, Srusti Academy of Management, S R Chess Centre, Dhenkanal District Chess Association, United Jajpur District Chess Association & Mahavinayak Chess Academy, Kalinga Bharati Residential College (Cuttack), Ganjam District Chess Association, Boudh District Chess Association, Khordha District Chess Association, Cuttack District Chess Association, Sambalpur District Chess Association & Koshal Chess Academy, District Chess Association of Puri and District Chess Association, Sundargarh.
Business Standard Bhubaneswar bureau chief Dillip Satpathy handed over the cash incentives in the presence of Srusti Academy of Management chairman Saroj K Sahoo, AOCA president Sekhar Chandra Sahu, vice-president Ranjan Mohanty, secretary Vivek Kumar Tibarewal and joint secretary Manoj Kumar Panigrahi.
