Local boy Mahesh Mohapatra and West Bengal girl Ananya Yadav justified their status as top seeds by winning titles in the AITA-OTA Talent Series U-12 Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Kalinga Stadium here today.
Mahesh showed no mercy in trouncing his citymate and second seed Pratyush Mohanty 6-0, 6-0 in the boys’s singles final, while Ananya prevailed over second seed Shatavisa Ghosh in the all-West Bengal girls’ singles final 6-2, 6-2.
This was the maiden AITA under-12 title for Ananya and third for Mahesh. Title winners gained 15 ranking points each, while the losing finalists secured 12 points apiece.
Tournament director Anup Guru gave away the trophies in the presence of tournament supervisor Prabin Kumar Nayak. Altogether 37 players, including 16 girls from three states have joined the four-day tournament, which is being organised by Odisha Tennis Association.
