Saheed Sporting, a premier cricket club of Odisha with the reputation of grooming former India swing bowler Debasis Mohanty and a number of first-class cricketers, including Rashmi Ranjan Parida, improved the facilities by adding two turf wickets and a gallery to its ground here at Saheed Nagar.
The newly prepared lush green ground, the turf wickets and the gallery were inaugurated by former India Test opener Shiv Sundar Das and Odia film actor Siddhanta Mahapatra today. The unveiling of the ground was followed by an under-14 exhibition match between Saheed Sporting and Rest of Bhubaneswar. Impressive knock of 76 by man of the match Shuvam Shatrujit enabled Saheed Sporting win the game by 32 runs.
Saheed Sporting`s Manas Ranjan Nayak, Uditanshu Parida and Shuvam Pani were adjudged best batsman, best fielder and best wicket-keeper respectively, while Arjya Jena of Rest of Bhubaneswar was named best bowler.
Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, local MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty and Odisha state senior cricket coach Debasis Mohanty handed over the prizes at the closing function.
According to club secretary Pankaj Patnaik, renovation of the Saheed Sporting ground became possible thanks to a contribution of Rs 5 lakh by K C Das, father of Late Siddharth Das (Nanu), an old member of the club.
BRIEF SCORE: Saheed Sporting 173/10 in 30 overs (Shuvam Shatrujit 76, Manas Nayak 41, Utitanshu Parida 23; Ashutosh Sahoo, Arjya Jena each 3 wkts) beat Rest of Bhubaneswar 141/10 in 29.5 overs (Shisir 22; Ritik Patra 3 wkts, Bikash, Om Das each 2 wkts).
