P Sairupa and Aniruddha Sahoo of S R Chess Centre, Cuttack, emerged champions in the Chhota Bheem Kidz Chess Carnival, which was organised by Alekhine Chess Club at Khudiram Anusilan Kendra, Kolkata, on December 24 and 25.
Sairupa, a student of DAV School, CDA, and daughter eminent chess coach Satya Ranjan Pattnaik, won the title in under-8 girls’ category, while Aniruddha stood first in under-6 boys’ group. The duo received a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each, scoring 7.5 points out of possible eight.
Grandmasters Sandipan Chanda, Nilotpal Das and Woman Grandmaster Nisha mohota handed over the trophies and cash prizes at the closing function.
