Karnataka A gained three points by virtue of taking a 166-run first-innings lead against Odisha A in their four-day C K Nayudu Trophy Elite Group-C match, which ended in a dull draw at Gandhi Stadium in Bolangir today. Karnataka A rode on a century each by Shreyash Gopal and L Khan to declare their second innings at 390 for three. The match ended there with hosts Odisha settling with one point.
Surprisingly, Karnataka A chose not to try for an outright result and continued their batting practice on the last day despite being armed with a huge lead.
Electing to bat, Karnataka A were in dire straight, losing six wickets for 105 runs. But an unbeaten 143 by stumper Dinesh Borwankar and half-century by A Sagar enabled them to make an imposing total of 389. In reply, Odisha A were bowled out for 223. Opener Anurag Sarangi was the top scorer with a solid 78, while Gopal bagged five wickets for Karntaka A. The hosts lost their last five wickets for 16 runs.
A sizebale crowd turned up to witness the match, which was first of its kind at Gandhi Stadium. Bolangir SP R Prakash inaugurated the match in the presence of Bolangir District Cricket Association president Srikara Mishra and secretary Hari Narayan Pujari.
