Six members of Bhubaneswar Golf Club (BGC) have qualified to compete in the East Zone Finals of the Toyota IGU National Club Challenge, which will take place at Tollygunge Club on December 13. The Eastern Region qualifier that teed off here at the BGC, saw highly competitive golf today. Satyajyoti Mohanty won the 0-6 handicap category, scoring 29 points. Around 100 golfers with handicaps of 24 and below participated in the BGC`s team selection round.
The winners in other categories were Ranjit Singh (29 points) in 7-10 handicap category, Dalbir Singh (29 points) in 11-15 handicap category, Anup Mohapatra (38 points) in 16-20 handicap category and Geeta Biswas (31 points) in 21-24 handicap category.
Geeta Biswas, a first lady to seal a birth for the zonal finals said, ``I am very happy and proud of my effort today. I managed to hit four pars and it was enough to grab opportunity to represent BGC in a pan India tournament.``
The individual winner in each of the five handicap category was automatically selected to represent the club team, while Devesh Sinha (14 H`cap), who scored 25 points, was nominated as the sixth member and captain of the team.
At the 18 hole zonal finals, the best five 18 hole total stableford scores of the six players will make the team score and the top two teams from each of four zonal finals will qualify for the third stage – the National Finals. The zonal qualifiers, zonal finals and National finals will be played in individual stableford off 3/4th handicap allowance.
