Sambit Panda and Adyasa Mahapatra clinched a double for Bhubaneswar by winning the open and girls titles respectively in the Odisha State U-11 Chess Championship here at Hotel Presidency today. As many as four players tied for the top spot in the open group, garnering six points each from seven rounds. Seventh seed Sambit eventually emerged champion in Buchholtz tie-break method, while third seed Subhasis finished runner-up.
In the girls` category, third seed Adyasa maintained her unbeaten streak to grab the crown outright with 6.5 points. Top seed Anwesha Mishra settled as runner-up with six points. The title winners in each category received Rs 1,500 each and the runners-up Rs 1,200 each.
Er Saroj Kumar Sahoo, chairman, Srusti Academy of Management, handed over the trophies and cash prizes in the presence of All Odisha Chess Association secretary Vivek Kumar Tibarewal.
A total 130 players, including 40 girls from 11 districts joined the three-day and seven-round tournament, which is being organised by All Odisha Chess Association. Top five finishers in open category and top two in girls section qualified to represent Odisha in the National U-11 Championship, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 2 to 10.

Open category: 1-4: Sambit Panda, Subhasis Barik, Pranab Kumar Patra, Amitansu Priyadarsan (6 each); 5-8: Ansuman Samal, Mahitosh Dey, Rudraksh Parida, Om Mishra (each 5.5); 9-10: Nilsu Pattnayak, Pratyanshu Kar.
Girls category: 1. Adyasa Mahaptra (6.5), 2. Anwesha Mishra (6), 3-7: Saina Salonika, Rupal Mishra, Biswarupa Chol, Yashaswini Sarangi, Shreejita Khuntia (5 each); 8-10: Shreya Smruti Mohanty, Anisha Mishra, Sampanna Hota (each 4.5).
