Rovers Club won the title in the 14th State Basketball Championship, defeating Club the Supreme 67-64 in the all-Cuttack final at Berhampur Stadium in Berhampur today. Trailing 49-58 at the end of third quarter, Rovers Club launched ferocious attack in the last quarter to clinch a thrilling victory.
D C Sethi was the top scorer for Rovers with 16 points, while M K Behera shone for Club the Supreme with 17 points. Earlier in the semifinals, Rovers Club beat Bhadrak district 65-55, while Club the Suprement got the better of Rourkela Steel Plant 66-61.
Southern Range police DIG Amitav Thakur handed over the trophy in the closing function. Berhampur SP Aniruddh Singh, Tata Steel’s Gopalpur Project Manager Sushant Kumar Mishra and Ganjam District Athletic Association president N C Padhi and secretary Ashok Sahu were present on the occasion. Binu Beni of Ganjam was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
