State Sports Hostel, Cuttack, won the 11th Utkalika Cup Floodlit Football Tournament, defeating local challengers Kalinga Sales 2-1 in the final at Unit-6 High School ground here today. Mohammad Siddiq scored the two goals for the winners in the 30th and 65th minutes, while Subhasish Nayak pulled one back for Kalinga Sales in the 50th minute.
The champions received Rs 10,000 and the runners-up were given Rs 7,000. State Sports Minister D Nayak gave away the trophy and cash prizes. Tata Steel’s Orissa Resident Executive Sanjay Patnaik, host Unit-VI Athletic Association chairman D K Samantaray, president Tapan Mohanty and secretary Dilip Kumar Das were present at the presentation ceremony.
Siddiq was presented with a colour TV set as the man of the tournament. Snehasis Nayak (Kalinga Sales), Anis Mohammad (Barabati Sporting) and A Naresh (Sports Hostel) were awarded the man of the match, best goalkeeper and best defender of the tournament respectively. Sports Hostel coach Jairaj Patnaik and National referee Bapi Mohanty were honoured on the occasion.
