Parida wins Halder Memorial chess title

Top seed Manas Ranjan Parida of Bhubaneswar continued his impressive performance till the end to emerge champion in the 19th Makhanlal Halder Memorial All Odisha Open Chess Tournament, which concluded at Durgabari Samiti premises in Puri today.

Parida garnered 7.5 points from eight rounds to take home the top prize of Rs 5,000. Puri Municipality chairperson Shantilata Pradhan gave away the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function. Host Puri District Chess Association president Kumar Halder, secretary Dr Bimal Prasad Mohanty and chief arbiter Debasis Panigrahi were present on the occasion.
