Srinibas Mishra of Angul and Gitashree Biswal of Cuttack emerged champions in open and girls categories respectively in the State U-13 Chess Championship, which concluded at Town Hall in Boudh today.
In the six-round open category, Srinibas scored 5.5 points with five wins and a draw, while Sundargarh`s Diptanshu Ranjan Swain finished runner-up with five points. Gitashree claimed the title in the five-round girls` category, garnering 4.5 points. Angul`s Sweta Senapati, who also scored 4.5 points, settled as runner-up on the basis of tie-break rule.
Altogether 38 players, including seven girls joined the State Under-13 Chess Championship, which was hosted by Boudh District Chess Association. Top two finishers in each category qualified to represent Odisha in the National U-13 Championship to be held at Puducherry from June 29 to July 8.
