Rakesh Gochhayat, emerged hero as Chilika emerged champions in the 2nd edition of Odisha Premier League T-20 Cricket Tournament, beating Baitarani by four wickets in the hard-fought final at the floodlit Barabati Stadium here tonight. Put into bat, Baitarani compiled a healthy total of 168 for four in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Chilika romped home with three balls to spare.
Gochhayat, a Grade-C player, scored an unbeaten 47 (37 balls) with the help of three fours and four sixes to enable Chilika pull off the thrilling victory from the jaws of defeat. He received a cash prize of Rs 5,000 as the man of the final match.
Amidst the defeat, Baitarani captain Natraj Behera stood tall, hitting an unbeaten 115 (69 balls, 12x4, 6x6), the lone century of the tournament. His splendid knock fetched him the man of the tournament reward, which carried a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
Champions Chilika received the top cash prize of Rs 3 lakhs, while the runners-up Baitarani took home Rs 2 lakhs. Dhauli, which finished third in the tournament, became richer by Rs 1 Lakh. Police DG Prakash Mishra handed over the trophy in the glittering closing function. Host Odisha Cricket Association president Ranjib Biswal, secretary Asirbad Behera and Cuttack Mayor Soumendra Kumar Ghosh were present on occasion.
Earlier in the semifinals, Chilika eliminated title aspirant Dhauli by four wickets, while Baitarani beat Rushikulya by 31 runs.
