Sundargarh eves lift State hockey title

Host Sundargarh won the title in the 2nd State Women’s Hockey Championship, trouncing Cuttack 6-2 in the high-scoring final here at the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium earlier today. In the exciting first-half, Rajkumari Ekka drew the first blood for Sundargarh in the 21st minutes and Elin Lakra struck in the 29th minutes to give the home team a 2-0 lead. Kanchan Barla reduced the lead to 2-1, scoring the first goal for Cuttack in the 33rd minutes. Rajkumari struck again in the 36 minute as the scoreboard read 3-1 in favour of Sundargarh. But three minutes later Cuttack’s Manju Lakra curtailed the lead to 3-2.

However, the Cuttack eves virtually surrendered after the change of ends as Sundargarh scored three more goals without much resistance. Rajkumari struck her third goal, while Elin Lakra successfully completed a brace and Sima Lakra sounded the board once for Sundargarh.
