Odisha went down fighting to Gujarat by three wickets in their opening Group-A super league match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T-20 Cricket Tournament at Emerald High School ground in Indore today. The win fetched Gujarat four points, while Odisha drew blank.
Electing to bat, Odisha overcame a poor start to muster a competitive total of 151 for six. Govind Poddar maintained his consistency by top scoring with 40 runs, while skipper Biplab Samantaray, Subhrajit Sahoo and Aravinda Singh made useful contributions.
In reply, Gujarat rode on a 32-ball 40 by Niraj Patel and 29 each by skipper Parthiv Patel and Jesal Karia to overhaul the target with two balls to spare. Seamer Basant Mohanty was most successful Odisha bowler, taking three wickets for 27 runs.
