Pradip Patra of Khurda district won two gold medals with new meet records in the 59kg junior and senior categories of the 23rd State Powerlifting Championship, which commenced at Bharatpur in Talcher today. He lifted 190kg in squat, 110kg in benchpress and 230kg in deadlift for a total of 530kg in both the categories. Patra also won a silver medal in 110kg open benchpress event, while Nilambar Sahu bagged the gold with a lift of 112kg.
In 59kg sub-junior category, Sudam Sahu of Balangir claimed gold medal with a new record. He lifted 170kg in squat, 105kg in benchpress, 200kg in deadlift for a total 475kg. Altogether 160 lifters, including 30 girls from different districts joined the championship, which is being organised by Angul District Powerlifting Association in collaboration with Mahanadi Coalfields Limited.
