SRM University (Chennai) emerged champions in the 4th SOA Premier League Inter-University Cricket Tournament with a 75-run win over Lovely Professional University (Chandigarh) in the floodlit final at the SOA stadium here tonight.
Laxminarayan starred in the SRM victory hitting an unbeaten 72 off 56 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and two sixes. In reply to SRM University`s total of 147 for seven, Lovely Professional University were bundled out for 72.
Champions SRM University bagged the top prize of Rs 1 lakh, while runners-up Lovely Professional University settled with Rs 50,000. Altogether 12 technical universities participated in the week-long tournament, which was organised by Sikshya `O` Anusandhan University (SOA).
Odisha Sports Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi handed over the trophy at the closing function. Odisha woman cricket star Rasanara Parbin, who represented India in the recent ICC Women`s World Cup, was felicitated on the occasion with a cheque of Rs 50,000.
Earlier in the semifinals, defending champions Utkal University (Bhubaneswar) suffered a humiliating seven-wicket defeat at the hands of SRM University (Chennai), while Lovely Professional University (LPU), Chandigarh beat Delhi Technological University by 35 runs.
BRIEF SCORE (Final): SRM University 147-7 in 20 overs (Laxminarayan 72 n.o, Sunny Singh 22; Aman Magoo 3-21, Amir Bhat 2-28) beat Lovely Professional University 72-10 in 19.2 overs (Aswin 3-14, Aushik Srinivas 2-6) by 75 runs.
