Pandit Ravishankar University (Raipur) emerged champions, winning all three of their super league matches in the East Zone Inter-University Women`s Basketball Tournament, which concluded at KIIT University campus here today.
In their last super league match, Ravishankar University beat University of Calcutta by 24 points (44-20). Benarus Hindu University (Varanasi) ended runners-up, defeating Utkal University (Bhubaneswar) 50-39. Calcutta and Utkal finished third and fourth respectively.
These four universities qualified to represent East Zone in the All-India Inter-University Women`s Basketball Tournament to be hosted by KIIT University here from December 2 to 7. Top four universities from West, North and South zones will also take part in the all-India tournament.
Namrata Singh of Utkal University was adjudged the Player of the East Zone Tournament, scoring a total of 123 points. KIIT University Vice-chancellor Prof P P Mathur and Joint-Registrar Sucheta Priyabadini handed over the trophy and prizes at the closing ceremony.
Altogether 16 universities, including four from Odisha have joined the tournament, which was inaugurated by KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta. Other three Odisha teams in the fray include Ravenshaw University, Berhampur University and host KIIT University.
