Chinese Taipei win Asian baseball title

Chinese Taipei edged out Japan 1-0 in their last league match to win the title in the 7th Asian Under-15 Boys’ Baseball Championship for Boys, which concluded at Ravenshaw University ground here today. The champion team won all four of their league matches to finish at the top of the table. Japan became runners-up with three wins.

Korea beat host India 4-2 in another league match of the day to secure the third position. India occupied the fourth position with one win and two defeats. After losing their opening match to Chinese Taipei 0-7, India created sensation by upsetting world champions Japan 3-2 in a league match. Thailand, the fifth country in the fray, finished at the bottom of the table, losing four matches in a row.

The championship was organised by Odisha Baseball Association (OBA), under the aegis of Amateur Baseball Federation of India (ABFI). Revenue Divisional Commissioner Dr Arabinda Padhi handed over the trophy in the presence of Ravenshaw University Vice-chancellor Dr Bishnab Ch Tripathy, PCC president Niranjan Pattanaik, Asian Baseball Federation secretary general Sang Hung Lee, ABFI president Ramakanta Ingle, secretary PC Bhardwaj and OBA secretary Sibananda Pradhan.
