Allahabad advocates emerge champions

Allahabad outplayed Supreme Court by 111 runs in the final to lift the trophy in the 24th All-India Advocates` Cricket Tournament at DRIEMS Stadium in Tangi, 20kms from here today. Virendra Upadhyay starred in the victory, hitting an unbeaten 151 with the help of 15 fours and one six. He was adjudged the man of the match and best batsman of the tournament for scoring a total of 312 runs.

His teammate Alok Verma, who bagged a total of 16 wickets including four in the final, pocketed the prize as best bowler. The man of the tournament and best fielder prizes were claimed by Supreme Court`s Aditya Kumar (348 runs and 3 catches) and Odisha`s Sarat Kumar Jena (11 catches) respectively.

Earlier in the semifinals, Supreme Court beat host Odisha by 23 runs, while Allahabad got the better of Karnataka 77 runs. Justice Ananga Kumar Patnaik of Supreme Court handed over the trophy at the closing function.

BRIEF SCORE (Final): Allahabad 257/2 in 35 overs (Virendra Upadhyay 151 n.o, Nasir Ali 53, Bhupendra Yadav 43) beat Supreme Court 146/10 in 31.3 overs (Abdullah 43; Alok Verma 4/34, Anil Pandey 2/7, Rakesh Sharma 2/24, Kunal Ravi Singh 2/28).
