Lacklustre performance by the batsmen resulted in Odisha losing to Vidarbha by 106 runs on the penultimate day of their four-day Group-B Ranji match at DRIEMS Stadium in Tangi, 20kms from here today. Chasing a victory target of 226, Odisha were bundled out for 119 in the second innings.
Earlier, Odisha conceded a first-innings lead of 85 runs by folding up for 121 in reply to Vidarbha’s 206. Wicketkeeper-batsman Amol Ubarhand and medium-pacer Amol Jungade played important roles in the Vidarbha win. Ubarhande, who scored a total of 93 runs including a half-century in the second innings and held seven catches, was adjudged the man of the match. Jungade bagged five wickets in the second innings and six in the match. Odisha restricted the opposition to 140 in the second innings thanks to a maiden five-wicket haul by pacer Alok Mangaraj.
The thumping win, their second in seven matches, fetched six points for Vidarbha and elevated them to the third position in the nine-team Group B league table. On the other hand, the defeat was Odisha’s third and they slipped to the fifth position with 16 points from seven outings.
In the eighth and last round of league matches to be played from December 29 to January 1, Odisha will meet Uttar Pradesh at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack and Vidarbha will take on Delhi.
