Dasharathi Sahoo wins title in Sundargarh Open

Dasharathi Sahoo (Khordha) overcame stiff fight to win the title in the 11th Sundargarh Open Chess Tournament, which concluded at Jay Durga Club, Rangadhipa (Sundargarh) today. Sahoo, who beat Susobhit Das of Sundargarh in the ninth and last round, tied for the top position with KL Bhoi (Sambalpur) and Bhaskar Shri Viswaroopanand (Puri) with 7.5 points in his kitty. But on the basis of Buchholtz tie-break system, Sahoo emerged champion, which fetched him the top prize of Rs 6,000.

Bhoi took the second prize of Rs 4,000, while Viswaroopanand settled with the third prize of Rs 3,000.
Altogether 76 players from different places of the state participated in the four-day tournament, which was organised by District Chess Association, Sundargarh in association with Jay Durga Club. Sundargarh Additional District Magistrate Bibhuti Bhusan Behera gave away the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function.
