Odisha inflicted an innings and 119-run defeat on Railways on the fourth and last day of their Cooch Behar Trophy (U-19) Plate Group-A match at Rajkot today. Odisha collected full seven points from this huge win, while Railways drew blank. This was Odisha’s the second in three matches and they will next meet Gujarat at Ahmedabad from December 22 to 25.
Needing 356 runs to escape innings defeat, Railways folded up for 236 in the second innings. Resuming at the overnight score of 167 for four, they lost their remaining six wickets in addition of 69 runs. Allrounder Priyatosh Paramaik played instrumental role in the emphatic victory, hitting a half-century in Odisha’s only innings and bagging five wickets for 45 runs in Railways’ second innings.
Earlier, Railways were forced to follow on after conceding a first-innings lead of 355 runs. In reply to Odisha`s massive total of 492 for nine declared, Railways were bowled out for 137. Leg-spinner Rajkishan Patel bagged four wickets, while pacer Ankit Yadav scalped three.
In Odisha’s only innings, batsmen were on song with opener Pratik Das scoring a dashing century(106, 107 balls, 22x4), all-rounder Ankit Yadav (97, 127b, 14x4, 2x6) missing his ton by three runs and captain Ranjit Singh (56, 166b, 4x4, 1x6), Subhranshu Senapati (67, 158b, 7x4) and Priyatosh Paramanik (56, 134b, 9x4)hitting a half-century each.
