St Xavier School, Khandagiri hammered DAV School, Unit-VIII by 148 runs in the finale to emerge champions in the 11th VCAO Inter-School Cricket Tournament at BJB College ground here Sunday.
Jyoti Ranjan Acharya starred in the victory, scoring a century. The swashbuckling batsman, who had slammed 171 in the semifinal against Stewart School, walked away with man of the tournament prize of Rs 4,000.
In reply to St Xavier`s big total of 237 all out, DAV School were dismissed for 89. Avinash Nanda was another impressive performer for the victorious school, hitting a cameo 38 and bagging four wickets for 26 runs. His teammates Jyoti Ranjan Acharya and Syed Ali picked up two wickets each. Nihar Lenka (Stewart School), Avinash Nanda (St Xavier), Soumya Sourav Kumar (BJEM School) and Sudhanshu Das (DAV, Unit-VIII) were awarded as best batsman, best bowler, best wicket-keeper and best fielder respectively.
Jyote Group Managing Director Debjyoti Pattnaik handed over the trophy and cash prizes in the presence of host Veterans` Cricket Association of Odisha president Dr S Mustaq Ali and secretary Biren Das.
