Host Delhi defeated Odisha by 10 wickets on the fourth and last day of their Group-B Ranji Trophy match at Feroz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi today. Senior batsman Mithun Manhas with an unbeaten 161 laid the foundation for the emphatic victory, while a five-wicket haul by left-arm medium pacer Pawan Suyal and an unbeaten 55 by skipper Shikhar Dhawan provided the finishing touches.
Batting failure in the first innings cost Odisha dear as they were bowled out for 143. In reply, Delhi compiled 331 to take a healthy lead of 188. Odisha put up much better performance to muster 269 in the second innings. This was possible thanks to a fighting knock of 85 by Govind Poddar and his 84-run stand for the third wicket with Biplab Samantaray, who missed a half-century by three runs. Poddar faced 171 balls and hit 15 boundaries. Skipper Natraj Behera contributed 35 in the first innings and 45 in the second despite sustaining an injury on the opening day.
Needing 82 runs for victory in the second innings, Delhi rode on the Dhawan half-century and his 85-run unfinished opening-wicket stand with Unmukt Chand to romp home in 15 overs. The emphatic win, their first in two outings, fetched Delhi seven points, while Odisha drew blank.
