Stumper Kadambini Mahakud`s belligerent half-century went in vain as Odisha suffered a five-wicket defeat against host Assam in their opening one-day match of the East Zone Senior Women Cricket Tournament at Guwahati today. Electing to bat, the Odisha team with two internationals in their rank, made 143 for nine in the stipulated 50 overs.
Kadambini hit 59 with the help of seven fours and one six. In reply, the home team overhauled the target with five balls to spare. Reema Mal top scored for Assam with 43 runs. The win fetched Assam four points, while Odisha drew blank. Odisha would next meet Tripura on Nov 6.
