Sambalpur Football Academy finished runners-up in the 1st ONGC Himachal Pradesh Football Festival when they lost to Mohun Bagan U-14 team 0-2 in the floodlit final at Nahan in Himachal Pradesh yesterday.
Satyajit Roy and Ferozuddin Mollah scored the two goals in the 30th and 67th minutes respectively. The Odisha side suffered a setback in the second half as one of its player was sent off to reduce them to 10 men. Earlier in the second semifinals, Sambalpur FA defeated Prayag United SC of Kolkata by a solitary goal. Doman Marandi scored just at the stroke of the half-time.
Sambalpur boys gave their campaign a flying start in Group B, mauling Yamunanagar Football Academy, Haryana 13-0. Vishnu, who opened the floodgates in the sixth minute, went on to score three goals. Shaw and Sukhlal scored a brace each, while Chandan, Damain, Rajouram, Sanjaya, Wahid and Kamaljeet contributed one goal each.
In their second league match, the Sambalpur FA blanked DPS Solan 3-0. Sukhlal Basra opened the account in the ninth minute, while Kamaljit doubled it in the 25th minute. Change of end saw Sukhlal adding one more to take his overall tally to four goals in the tournament.
