Odisha lifters bag five Commonwealth medals

All five Odisha weightlifters of the 45-member Indian squad bagged a medal each by the end of second day of the Commonwealth Championships at Apia in Samoa today. Among the five, Minati Sethi, Arun Santa and Achyutananda Sahoo secured a gold each, while Tikina Gopal and Subhasmita Mohanty claimed a silver and a bronze respectively. After the second day, India`s medal tally swell to 34, which included 24 gold.

The Commonwealth Championship is being held for Youth (Boys and Girls), Junior (Men and Women) and Senior (Men and Women) categories simultaneously. Altogether five lifters from Odisha, including three girls are participating in the meet.

Minati Sethi (Senior women 58kg: snatch 75kg, clean & jerk 100kg, total of 175kg). Aruna Santa (Youth boys 56kg: snatch 94kg, clean & jerk 120kg, total of 214kg). Achyutananda Sahoo (Junior men 62kg: snatch 95, clean & jerk 125kg, total 220kg).
Silver: Tikina Gopal (Senior women 53kg: snatch 74kg, clean & jerk 88kg, total of 162kg).
Bronze: Subhasmita Mohanty (Youth girls 63kg: snatch 60kg, clean & jerk 75kg, total of 135kg).
