An 11-member Odisha squad bagged five medals (two gold, two silver and one bronze) in the 11th Federation Cup Junior National Athletics Championship, which was held at Shiv Chhatrapathi Sports Complex in Pune from May 8 to 10.
Among the medallists, Dutee Chand won one gold in girls’ 100m sprint (12.20 seconds), one silver in 200m sprint (24.97 seconds); Purnima Hembra secured one gold with new meet record in girl’s pentathlon (4810 points), Ashman Sahu claimed one silver in boys` triple jump (14.75 meters) and the girls’ 4x100m relay squad, comprising Dutee Chand, Purnima Hembram, Puspanjali Mallik and Madhusmita Giri, collected one bronze, clocking 51.22 seconds.
Among other Odisha athletes, men`s 4x100m relay squad finished sixth, Mdhusmita Giri occupied fifth position in women`s 400m hurdles, Sarojini Mallick finished eighth in women` 10,000 meter race walk and Anil Kumar Das secured seventh position in men`s 110 metre hurdles.
Meanwhile, Dutee’s elder sister Saraswati Chand helped India win a gold medal in women`s 4x400m relay event of the Asian Grand Prix Meet at Bangkok on yesterday.
