Patro wins East Zone chess title for the blind

Host Odisha made a clean sweep of the top three positions in the 9th East Zone Chess Championship for the Blind, which concluded at Red Cross Bhawan here today. Unheralded Subhendu Kumar Patro emerged champion with seven points from as many rounds, while Prachrya Kumar Pradhan finished runner-up with six points. Prachurya`s younger brother Soundarya Kumar Pradhan occupied the third position with 5.5 points.

Indian Red Cross Society (Odisha state branch) vice-president Asha Hans gave away the trophy and prizes at the closing ceremony. Pesident of All India Chess Federation for the Blind, Atul Ranjan Sahay, Odisha state body secretary Sanyash Behera and chief arbiter Durga Prasad Mohapatra were present on the occasion.
