Second Division I-League team Samaleswari Sporting (Sambalpur) emerge champions in the 12th All-India Knock-Out Football Tournament, defeating Jhan Bazaar (Kolkata) 2-0 in the final at the SERSA ground Bondamunda here today. The tournament was organized by Railway Institute.
The first half of the exciting match ended goalless as both sides produced competitive football. But with 20 minutes to go for the final whistle Sylvestor struck to provide the much-needed lead to the Sambalpur team. Seven minutes later, his teammate Manoj Das scored the second goal to seal the fate of the Kolkata side.
Sylvestor was adjudged man of the match. South Eastern Railway’s Chakradharpur Railway Divisional Manager Anchal Khare gave away trophy and prizes in the presence of senior SER officials Sanjay Tyagi and Sadasiv Anand.
Earlier, the Jhan Bazar (Kolkata) advanced into the final with a 4-2 win against DSA (Central Railway-Nagpur) via tie-breaker as the regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw. The second semi-final was also decided through tie-breaker as Samaleswari Sporting (Sambalpur) beat Akbar Travels (Mumbai) 4-2.
