Odisha sub-junior football team runners-up

Host Odisha finished runners-up in the 34th Sub-junior National Football Championship (East Zone Qualifyers) for Coca-Cola Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy, losing to Jharkhand 2-3 in the final, via penalty shoot-out at Satyabrata Stadium here today.

Tie-break rule came into application after play in the regulation and extra time ended in goal-less draw. Ramugaihakima, Prantik Roy and Sisher Purty converted three spot kicks for Jharkhand, while Odisha scored twice through Harimohan Soren and Sunil Soren.

Earlier in the semifinals, Odisha prevailed over West Bengal 3-1, while Jharkhand mauled Chhattisgarh 14-0. Rakesh Oram scored a brace and Deepak Digal netted one for the home team. Odisha Olympic Association general secretary Asirbad Behera handed over the winners` tropy in the presence of Baseball Association of Odisha secretary Sibananda Pradhan and  Odisha State Table Tennis Association secretary R K Parida
