Odisha finished runners-up in the 1st Hockey India Junior National Championship when they lost to Haryana 5-4 in the final, via penalty shoot-out, at Shiv Chhatrapti Shivaji Sports Complex, Pune today.
Teams were locked 2-2 at the end of the regulation time. In the tie-breaker, Mikhal Barla and Bikas Kujur scored for Odisha, while skipper Stanli Victor Minz and Amon Mirash Tirkey failed to put the ball in.
In the regulation time, Odisha sounded the board twice through Ignacius Toppo and skipper Minz in the sixth and 70th minute. Odisha`s Subodh Tirkey bagged the individual award as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
In the quarterfinal, Odisha beat Karnataka 5-2 (Mikhail Barla 2, Deepak Kullu, Sushil Xalxo and Ignacious Toppo 1 each).
